Adolescents' Knowledge and Attitude to Pictorial Warnings On Cigarette’s Pack in Jayapura City

Abstract

Pictorial warnings on cigarette’s pack include information so that audiences exposed to warning messages about the dangers of smoking habit. The purpose of this study was to determine students' knowledge and attitudes towards pictorial warnings on cigarette packs. This type of research uses quantitative descriptive research with a cross sectional approach. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Kota Jayapura with a total population of 1,396 students from classes X-XII, and obtained as many as 94 respondents using accidental sampling techniques in sampling. The results of univariate analysis showed that majority student’s had lack of knowledge level as much as 66% and positive or good attitudes about pictorial warnings on cigarette packs with 91.5%.  In conclusion, student’s in Jayapura City had lack of knowledge but good attitudes towards pictorial warnings on cigarette packs.
